Well, I don’t mean to pee on your Wheaties but…

Wrong metaphor.

The reason we don’t have operating solutions yet is that we need to invent them and we are as a civilization inventing them but it takes more time than you may feel comfy with. I get it. Yes, we have to rebuild all of our transportation and energy infrastructures. But we can also take carbon out of the environment. No body is talking about that.

You are right, we first learned from M. King Hubert in the 1950s that we are running out of oil (thank goodness). We have not found new oil since 2003.

But look at this: Solar panels are made of silicon chips on the same scale as powerful computers. We had not developed the tech to make such chips until the last decade or so. It takes time. But solar costs are coming down fast.

We, all of us, don’t understand the problem. We think we can limit emissions and be home free. We can’t.

We need to remove carbon from the environment at scale. This can be done but it ain’t free and the public is not aware of the problem or the solution. I have written here that we need to employ photosynthesis in the form of promoting plankton growth in the oceans to fix the problem. People scoff at this idea but do you realize fossils in the term fossil fuels refers to dead plankton???

There is a lot going on right now that government is only tangentially involved in and that’s good because the free market is finding ways to make the needed changes profitable. Many of the government-backed approaches I have seeen look like giant grifting projects aimed at enriching the rich. So let’s not go there.

Check out ThinkGeoEnergy.com if you need something to hope for.

Finally there is my out of print book, The Age of Sustaainability, if you can find a copy. It goes into detail about all of this. Very few people bought it which shows you how concerned most people are.

The thing we should never do is throw up our hands and say game over. You only lose if you quit.
