Several years ago now, I put a deposit on a Model 3, bought a home charger and had it installed. When the day finally came I drove to the dealership with a fat check, the title to my old car and such. They had told me the final number and I was financing a part of it. The closing went routinely. We chatted, signed various documents, I handed over my check, and we were done, or so I thought. Contrary to the payoff number they'd given me, the idiot on the other side told me I still owed $18.75, would I like to wire that money? Well, no, as a matter of fact, I would not. I know a little bit of law from my career in tech sales and I was not accepting the additional charge, as I considered it illegal. We had a contract at an agreed price after all. So I walked out with my keys, title, and fat check. I lost my deposit and when I went to a planned party later that day, some friends were derisive. Some offered to give me 20 bucks. That hurt but I've never second guessed myself. Sometimes the right move requires taking a hit. You don't treat customers like that and look how the attitude permeates everything else.

Used to write a lot more about science, tech, econ, politics etc. I spend my time reading and painting with exercise for good measure. Looking for more.
