I bought a 2023 Prius this year. I walked out of negotiations for a Tesla Model 3 and a KIA EV6 for the same reasons and I didn’t even visit Ford. All dealers wanted more money than agreed or wanted above MSRP. I have a friend who bought 2 EVs above MSRP because he’s rich but I am not. The 40k units/year figure may simply represent the number of people for whom price is a minor detail. It seems to me that as Richard Pryor said about cocaine, EVs are god’s way of telling you that you have too much money. The rest is fixable and just engineering changes.

Used to write a lot more about science, tech, econ, politics etc. I spend my time reading and painting with exercise for good measure. Looking for more.
