Good stuff though EGS, enhanced geothermal systems, are becoming mainstream, at least in thinking about the problem. I wrote a book, “The Age of Sustainability” and in one part on EGS quote a research report from MIT sponsored by the US Dept. of Energy that shows EGS is a doable thing. The report estimates there’s 1000 times the amount of energy we need under the Rocky Mountains. This year the USDOE said they thought we could get 60 GW from EGS in 30 years, a dreadfully conservative estimate. MIT’s report asked if we could get 100 GW or 10 percent of the US requirement and their answer was, this is not hard. I like EGS a lot.
