Battery and battery design are de facto commodities, so competing with other car makers using the same power pack is no big deal. It is right to say that the new battery would not be a game changer for Tesla though not having it would be end of game. Nothing will secure the place of EV’s in America’s garages better than a $25k price point. There are roughly 285 million cars in just the US and they all need to be replaced. Steady demand for EVs will drive faster build-out of the nation’s charging infrastructure which would be exceeded when people get the idea that overnight charging at home is more than sufficient.
